Natural Fabric Lampshades: Why Material Choice Changes the Light

Synthetic fabric lampshades are often recommended because they are easy to produce uniformly and cheaply. They provide adequate light diffusion. But under heat and over time, synthetic fabric yellows, becomes brittle, and develops the particular quality of looking like what it is: a manufactured object in decline.

Natural cotton and linen shade materials behave differently. They age into themselves. The slight irregularities in the weave become more apparent as the fabric relaxes over time. The quality of diffused light through the shade remains warm and consistent. And at end of life, natural fabric is biodegradable in a way that synthetic alternatives are not.

Sizing, Fitting, and Care

Our lampshades are available in a range of sizes for table lamps, floor lamps, and bedside fixtures. All use standard duplex fittings compatible with most Indian lamp bases. Use LED bulbs where possible as they run significantly cooler than incandescent alternatives. Dust gently with a soft dry cloth. Spot clean only if necessary and allow to dry fully before use.
