A throw is a small commitment. It sits in a room, gets used without ceremony, and communicates something about the room simply by being what it is made from. A synthetic throw communicates nothing. A handwoven natural fibre throw communicates that someone chose it with care.
Nimmit’s handwoven throws are made from cotton, wool, and alpaca by weavers working on traditional looms. Each fibre has its own character, its own weight, its own response to a cold evening. Each has been woven by hand into a throw that will last as long as you keep it.
The quality of a throw is experienced in two ways: in the hand, when you pick it up, and over the body, when you pull it around yourself. A handwoven throw passes both tests differently from a machine-made one. In the hand, it has weight without stiffness, a texture that is varied and warm rather than uniform. Over the body, it drapes rather than lying flat, moving with you rather than against you.
This is what natural fibre woven by hand does. The open structure of the handloom weave allows the fabric to behave like cloth rather than like a product.
Handwoven cotton throws are the most versatile piece in this collection. Lightweight enough for a warm monsoon evening, substantial enough for a cool winter night, and breathable enough for the full range of India’s climate in between. Natural cotton woven on a traditional handloom has the open structure that allows airflow and the softness that comes from being made by hand rather than extruded at industrial speed.
A cotton throw on a sofa or at the end of a bed is the layer that gets used most. It is also the one that ages most visibly and most beautifully. Handwoven cotton softens with every wash. After a year of regular use, the throw you have has a quality of hand that the throw you bought did not.
Wool is a fibre that manages temperature actively. It traps warmth in cold conditions and releases moisture in warm ones, a thermal regulation that no synthetic fleece replicates. A handwoven wool throw is warmer than its weight suggests because wool works with the body’s own temperature rather than simply insulating against the outside.
Our wool throws are handwoven by weavers who work with wool fibres processed without harsh chemical treatments. The character of the wool, its slight loft, the variation in the yarn, and the warmth of colour that natural wool accepts are all present in the finished throw.
Alpaca is softer than most wools, warmer than cotton at the same weight, and hypoallergenic. It does not carry the lanolin content that makes some people sensitive to wool, making it suitable for most skin types including those who find regular wool uncomfortable against skin. An alpaca throw is a considerable object: the kind of thing you use when you want the best available rather than simply the adequate.
Fold over one arm for a relaxed arrangement. Drape across the back for a more composed look. Leave it loosely across the seat for the kind of casual ease that only natural fibre achieves. Handwoven fabric falls correctly. It does not hold the rigid shape of a synthetic throw that has been folded too long.
A throw at the end of a bed adds texture and warmth without the formality of a quilt or duvet. It is the layer that gets pulled over on a cool night and folded back in the morning. For this use, a handwoven cotton or lightweight wool throw in a tone that works with the quilt beneath it is the most considered choice.
Cotton throws: Dry clean only. Do not wash or bleach. Steam or iron on low heat if required. Dry flat to preserve shape. Alpaca throws: hand wash in lukewarm water with mild detergent. Dry flat in shade. Avoid fabric softeners for all three. Natural fibre does not need softening.

Cotton, wool, and alpaca. Cotton is the most versatile for year-round use in India’s climate. Wool provides active temperature regulation and is warmer per gram than most alternatives. Alpaca is the softest and is hypoallergenic, suitable for skin types that find wool uncomfortable.
For long-term use, yes. Handwoven natural fibre throws have a drape, a texture, and a quality of improvement with use that machine-made alternatives do not. The softness is structural, built into the weave. It does not wash out. After a year of regular use, a handwoven throw is better than when you bought it.
Our alpaca throws are hypoallergenic and suitable for most people who are sensitive to standard wool. Alpaca does not contain the lanolin that causes sensitivity reactions in many wool products. For cotton throws, there are no known sensitivity concerns with natural cotton.
Dry clean only. Do not wash or bleach. Steam or iron on low heat if required. Do not wring, tumble dry, or hang while wet. Wool handles simple care well and will maintain its warmth and character across years of use.
A handwoven natural fibre throw is one of the most appreciated home gifts available. It is functional, beautiful, and made from materials that most recipients will not have encountered in a throw before. We ship globally with multi-currency checkout.
